Folks also love to talk about “democratizing media.” While it’s true that these platforms give folks the opportunity to break out, and be discovered... It’s generally the same type of people who attract an audience (regardless of the platform).

I’m not saying I don’t enjoy parts of Clubhouse (I do!) But it’s still early. (It wasn’t that long ago that millions of people were really excited about HQ Trivia as an app and concept.)

Attributes of the Clubhouse format that could make it difficult to sustain long-term: - the quality of a room depends on its participants and who gets to speak (difficult to maintain) - the best live streamers have to commit long hours every day to get engagement (many burn out)

“In 2010, Chatroulette was the “it” site. It was profiled religiously, as was its eventual rise and decline in popularity. By June of that year, reporters had gone from singing its praise as “the future of the internet” to writing its obituary.” –

I think audio spaces are probably here to stay. But enthusiasm for them will definitely wane. After a few months, users will reduce their usage. (Dedicating 2-6 hours a day to be in audio rooms isn’t sustainable for most folks)

Kelly Vaughn 🐞 @kvllyI think the rise of audio spaces was conveniently timed with everyone being stuck at home with the pandemic, but as the world returns to some semblance of normal and people leave their homes again, usage is going to drop pretty drastically. https://twitter.com/mijustin/status/1356234665162469384 …1 odpowiedź 1 podany dalej 15 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
There’s nothing wrong with getting excited about a new platform. Every growing platform provides opportunities for participants (while the window is open). Vine is dead, but it launched many careers. So take advantage of it! (But realize, it probably won’t last forever)

The true test of Clubhouse is how often I go to the app and find something I want to listen to. Pages and pages of options... but nothing compelling for me to listen to on my drive.pic.twitter.com/AyzVsjvhFS

Pushing you into a specific clubhouse from Twitter seems to the play right now. How about football/soccer matches. Imagine getting some ex-pro players into a clubhouse to comment on a match as it happens? Would move discovery to other social platforms, for a while at least..

In this case, my guess is that @TwitterSpaces will just win.
