I think @yongfook has done a pretty good job sharing his journey & building an audience

Bannerbear is definitely not an audience-first business though.

Are you PUTTING your audience first though? :)

@arvidkahl I believe you're working on a book about this but your definition of audience-first seems to be different than the common use of the term in our community Audience first means building the audience before monetizing, not putting your audience first Just a note2 odpowiedzi 0 podanych dalej 6 polubionych -
That's why I am writing this book, I think this is way too strict of a definition :)

I would argue that it's a completely different concept and you're only going to confuse people by trying to redefine an already commonly used term But you might just have the sway to pull it off, who knows ;-)

Have to agree. After reading this I’m confused. It’s not about building the audience first, then product?

That's definitely part of it. But so is understanding who you want to serve from day one, learning about their problems within their communities, building a following and a product at the same time. I believe audience-first starts long before you "build an audience."

Wait, so can you be audience first if you first had a product? The “first” part of it is throwing me off here. Would it be more similar to customer led? (vs product/sales/marketing led) Or something like audience led?

@arvidkahl 'customer led' has a nice ring to it. Certainly better than my suggestion lol2 odpowiedzi 0 podanych dalej 2 polubione
I like “customer led” too.

I like it too, just one thing: particularly while you're hunting for problems to solve in a community, there aren't any customers yet, not even prospects. They're mostly opportunity indicators (or demand, as you'd say). Can this really be called "customer-led"?
