What happened to French culture? It seems like it went from the dominant culture in the world a couple centuries ago to near obscurity in modern times

In Canada, I feel like “Quebec culture” still has a really strong impact: - most English schools offer French - many schools in English Canada offer full French immersion - many of our politicians (Trudeau) are from Quebec and/or French speaking - Every restaurant sells poutine

- French words like “toque” are used way more than the American equivalent (beanie). - Quebec cities like Montreal and Quebec City are what many Canadian cities aspire to be (architecturally, urban design) - all packaging has English and French translation (cereal boxes, etc)pic.twitter.com/bXeZMHMYPW

By extension, I think Canada is unusual. How did the French and English have a war, but then settle it by allowing both cultures to coexist? It’s a very strange history.pic.twitter.com/vja7d3alU7
