It’s mind boggling watching people confusing freedom of speech and a private company’s Terms of Use. How have they ever been the same thing. If Twitter deletes your account due to a violation you made of their rules, that does affect your (government-ruled) freedom of speech.

Consider this: Would it be okay if Twitter’s terms prevented people from using it based on race? The free speech argument is a similar one.

This is false equivalence. Yes (of course!) banning people because of the color of their skin would be wrong. But banning someone because of their actions? That’s perfectly reasonable. If someone comes into my store not wearing a shirt, I can say: “no shirt, no service.”

I think you’re confusing a “bad opinion” with “action” here. Saying bad stuff is speech. Not wearing a shirt is an action. Speech that is considered action is really specifically classified, because it is so incredibly uncommon.

Yes, and inciting violence is one that is generally considered action. But the tweet I was responding to wasn’t about inciting violence. I was commenting on whether it’s ok if a platform bans you based on your general expressed opinion, as long as it’s in the terms.

I think some of these platforms are banning when he has no account on them—Solely based on the risk of those expressed opinions appearing.

If you’re using MailChimp to incite riots and violence and hate crimes, MailChimp has the right to kick you off. If I’m a private book publisher in 1925, I don’t have to publish and distribute Mein Kampf.

I totally agree if I HAVE used those tools. But all major platforms are banning someone in some cases without an account?

If I’m MailChimp and I know you’ve been a bad actor on ConvertKit and ActiveCampaign, you better believe I’m not letting you sign up on my app either.
