Overview: How are successful bootstrapped companies formed? This matters if you want more independent, bootstrapped companies. I think they both care about this. I do! Starting my own business changed my life. I want this for other people and it really fires me up.

Getting into it:
@mijustin takes a structural, logic from analogy approach. markets, demand curves total addressable markets, etc.@jasonfried takes a logic from first principles approach, we only know what we know, build something you want1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 0 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
Both are true, and
@mijustin mentions that this is basically the conclusion they came to after recording an impromptu episode of Build Your SaaS (podcast). But something's missing. And I think they're both so good at it that they miss it.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 0 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
The Merchant. Customers are not NPCs (non-player characters). They are dynamic participants and you as an entrepreneur and persuade them. You need the market to be there, you need to build something you love, but you have to persuade people too. Or you can dissuade them.

This persuasion is essential—and it's obvious that both
@TransistorFM and@basecamp tell incredible stories and are highly persuasive. If you want to emulate them, you have to achieve this part too!1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 0 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
I think an analogy ties all three of these archetypes together and that's by explaining that the market is a playground.

You need to find a playground with lots of other kids playing in it—or that they will be arriving in the future. You need to play a game that you enjoy, play your game. AND you need to persuade hesitant new people to join your game too. Then you've got a business.

This persuasion part is very hard. It requires a lot of skill and practice. You can have the best ideas but you have to persuade others to see the merit in there. MANY founders struggle with this and it kills their companies.
