I think you’re being reductive. When a sitting President encourages armed extremists to “liberate” their state, that’s dangerous. When he calls Mexicans “rapists,” that’s racist. When he claims he won an election early, that’s authoritarianism.https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/security/trump-s-liberate-tweets-extremists-see-call-arms-n1186561 …
I’m not saying that Trump is “exactly like Hitler.” But he is objectively bad, on multiple fronts: climate change, science denial, racism (“shit hole countries”), covid response, destroying democratic institutions, amplifying conspiracies, sowing division and mania.

He is similar to Hitler, in that Hitler used the democratic process to gain power. Millions of people supported him. Similarly, millions of people are supporting a different kind of tyrant in Trump. I’m not discounting the value of these people; but millions can be deceived.

Our role as a rational society is to call out bad actors, and the people who support them. Obviously, there has to be limits to this (we don’t want “witch hunt hysteria”), but when a truly bad actor shows up, we need to identify them as such (and call out their supporters).
