Ok, now even FOX NEWS is calling out Trump’s lies. Strangely, my family and friends who voted for him still haven’t said anything...https://twitter.com/zoeschlanger/status/1324722753581293570?s=21 …

Justin Jackson podał/a dalej Gov. Tom Ridge
The former Governor of Pennsylvania (and a Republican!) called this out right away:https://twitter.com/GovRidge/status/1324515990697365505 …
Justin Jackson dodał/a,
Gov. Tom Ridge @GovRidgeWith his remarks from the White House tonight, the President disrespected every single American who figured out a way to safely vote amid a pandemic that has taken 235,000 lives. Not to mention those who are dutifully counting that vote. Absolutely shameful. Yet so predictable.2 odpowiedzi 0 podanych dalej 14 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
Look at the contrast between these two. I'm not a huge Biden fan, but he's light-years more reasonable than Trump. (Trump voters: how can you stay ignorant while he spouts this shit? How do you rationalize it?) There's no evidence of widespread voter fraud.pic.twitter.com/mmw4WN987O

I'm not a Trump voter but I'll speculate: Most of them know Trump is full of shit about this, but Biden talks about a world that makes no sense to them. So they're hoping that the courts will find some anomaly, and Trump keeps the seat. (We might just be ignorant of their world.)

I don’t buy your reasoning, because Trump is plainly incorrigible and incompetent. (They would never hire this guy to be their CEO) When you’re voting for leader of the country, you don’t vote for the authoritarian. (They could have abstained their vote too.)

Agree. Most of Trump's voters likely wouldn't want him as their boss, partner, colleague, neighbor, etc. But remember this is a choice between two alternatives, and in their eyes Biden is a worst representative of what they want and don't want. ...

If I were them, I'd give more weight to the president's character, but not everyone evaluates people the same way.

Here’s the challenge for our society then: when an authoritarian presents himself, how do we clearly evaluate that threat, and call people out on it? How do we not repeat what happened with Mussolini, Putin, etc?

It's a hard challenge. I think the best way is to make sure than no single person has a lot of power on a lot of people, something that the founders of the US thought a lot about. Paradoxically, Trump's faults seem more libertarian (anti-government) than authoritarian.

Daniel, my question is: when can we call a spade a spade? How bad does an individual leader have to be before we can label them as such? Through a series of elections, Hitler’s Nazi party rose to power. How and when should we label a leader as dangerous?

We need to be careful. He's politically incompetent, thin skinned, narcissistic, and a few other things. But do you truly believe we just lived under 4 years of fascism? I don't think so. We can't cry wolf too often, otherwise when the real fascist appears no one will notice.

BTW, I think it's good that people are calling him out on not wanting to concede the loss. Also, I don't mind ppl wondering about voting fraud. That's how u increase the integrity of the system. The stressor (questioning the likelihood of fraud) will help the system not hurt it.
