Whether it was by luck or skill, every successful small-business owner I know has found the same thing: a product category where there was a lot of demand.

What does demand look like, practically? It’s people *already in motion.* They’re already searching. They’re already thinking about it. They’re already trying to solve the problem.

Increasingly, I think the idea of “build an audience before you build your product” is misguided. An audience is *helpful* for launching into a category, but isn’t enough on its own. You need true market momentum.

You once said that when people are sucessfull it's hard for them to give good advice because they are at a different context/level to where you're at. IMHO the main reason people need to grow an audience when starting out is for "practice" as they level up. Just like you did!

I still think building an audience is still a good idea.
But I think the direct link between "build your audience so you can launch/market your product" is more tenuous.
(Especially for SaaS)
Info products, paid communities, and paid newsletters definitely benefit.2 odpowiedzi 0 podanych dalej 2 polubione -

I just had a podcast with Justin V last night on
@ReactorPod and mentioned this thread to him along with Alex's here: https://twitter.com/alexhillman/status/1300556791508611076 … My thought was that with Transistor, you had both an audience AND a wave.Mark dodał/a,
