Yes, but in this case, Apple says they can't disable IAP. So some % of customers will be able to sign up for Apple subscription... which complicates everything. Basecamp *wants* to use a single billing system (the one they have set up for their web app).
Sure, yes. No one enjoys adding complexity to a business. But, think about other biz selling products; they often use Amazon, their own ecom, physical stores; all to sell the same product. Different fees for each.
Apple is pretty clear on the rules (which were available ahead of development). If Hey had launched with custom domain support, as a business tool (e.g. Slack). This wouldn’t have happened.
