I mean let's talk turkey here. If this was your main app. Is there any way at all you overlook the fact that the *iOS* version of your app is breaking one of the cardinal rules of the app store? Really???

Well Basecamp not very likable but that aside it’s exactly like Shopify. If you want to be on apple’s platform you have to pay. Other companies WAY smaller than bc pay. Why should they not? If you don’t like it don’t be on iOS. iOS isn’t even the largest mobile os

It would be a totally different story if you could install apps to iOS without going through the App Store. Then taking 30% to gain access to the App Store distribution channel makes some sense. But this is 30% to install on an operating system. Imagine Windows doing this.

Shopify clearly more predatory than Apple. Those bastards are ruthless.

really that’s all an aside to it being a huge fuckup on thier part and rather than going to the mattresses for their custs they’re throwing a temper tantrum over a few % of rev. They’d rather throw away the app (so they claim) so I have zero pity. showing thier true colors

I see it as them standing up against a monopoly that's taking advantage. Maybe they'll inspire more developers and users to do the same. Apple shouldn't be allowed to operate this way.

We wouldn’t allow Chrome to take 30% of our SaaS revenue to be “on their platform.”
This isn’t like building a Shopify add-on. This is an independent app, that needs to be installed on a popular OS.
