Lots of folks in podcasting are worried about exclusive audio content (Rogan) on platforms like Spotify, Stitcher, and Luminary. Question: can you see yourself switching the way you consume podcasts to get exclusive content like this?

. And given they don't want to maintain too many paid subs, they'll default to 1 for most content that isn't a specific "seek it out" situation and that platform will benefit from users exploring and finding new content.Dziękujemy. But there wasn’t ever really an open-source backed distribution system for other types of media. Which is why podcasts going exclusive is a shame. I get it, people need to get paid, but it’s still sad that there wasn’t a better way to make that work while keeping it open.

In that case, it feels more similar to Medium vs blogs.

Maybe, but this isn't exactly the same. Those are all subscriptions. Spotify is trying to build an advertising business as far as we can see on the pod side. Hence, it will benefit them to aggregate a lot of the best shows and theoretically could reach some type of tipping point

I'm not saying for geeks, but for regular people who just listen to pods via Spotify bc that's where 'all' the shows are.

Using this analogy, what is the ‘http://Transistor.fm ’ of the video world?
@wistia? -
Probably something like that. But who knows how it might shake out. Maybe in the long run Spotify makes it's ad engine available without directly hosting via some API setup allowing there to be a lot of hosts still who all leverage the API as partners or something.

As long as it doesn't turn out like when Howard Stern signed with Sirius XM and Sirius had to merge because separate neither would win

The podcast industry doesn’t rely on infrastructure that has to be launched into space. There will be some consolidation but it doesn’t lend itself to monopoly.
