@mijustin when you discuss the network of local retailers, how is that different than what Amazon does with 3rd party retailers which make up more than half of their sales? Why wouldn't a small retailer become a 3p on Amazon? -

Interesting talk and certainly the way to go forward. But in terms of collective warehouse space, one can argue they can use FBA
(Fulfilment by Amazon). Also, Shopify is investing massively to compete with Amazon in terms of logistics which is a good sign for small shops. -

You're forgetting price. Commission drives up price, not using ups/usps costs more b/c they have to hire more. Unless they will all take a cut to start out I don't see how it will work.

In retail, “buying clubs” and “buying associations” are already a thing: retailers band together and buy as a group, increasing their leverage and helping them all get a wholesale discount.
