But they’re fungible. If every small business went under in the next six months, they would all be replaced or not missed with no pain to anyone but the proprietor and the employees. By contrast if Boeing went under, a few Senators would lose a little money. See the problem?
Bailouts don't solve long-term problems. Only provide temporary relief. Companies that can't sustain tough times should not be in business, and gritty founders will persevere. Banks got $114B from Canadian governments in the 2008 recession. The auto industry got $3.2B. Air Canada got $1.2B in financial aid in 2009. Government aid and spending is crucial during a disaster. I just want to make sure it’s allocated to the right folks.
