Entrepreneurs respond to existing demand, they don’t create it. The market should already be “pulling” for what you’re building; the demand should already exist.

I think this is generally true and usually the right advice, but something is shifting.
@david_perell talks about this with his concept of "Audience-First Products" https://www.perell.com/blog/audience-first-products … Build an audience, influence and listen to them (bidirectional) and THEN build a product1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -

Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger have built an incredible audience with http://refactoringui.com But they didn’t generate the demand for “UI education.” There was untapped demand in the market that enabled them to: a) build an audience c) sell to them

Good example! I think the question becomes - does an audience come from untapped demand, or can someone manufacture an audience? Demand -> Audience + Sale (traditional) or Audience -> Demand -> Sale ("Audience First Product") Maybe it's a bit of both.

Very difficult to build an audience unless there is some form of latent (or visible) demand.
