Entrepreneurs respond to existing demand, they don’t create it. The market should already be “pulling” for what you’re building; the demand should already exist.

Airbnb, uber et al would disagree with you. It’s just harder the other way (and maybe requires more cash)

Are you sure you want to use Uber as an example? https://techcrunch.com/2019/08/08/uber-stock-plummets-following-second-quarter-earnings-report/ …

I used uber and Airbnb as well understood examples of creating new behaviour — I’m sure there are many more who are less controversial. It depends what you’re advocating for with ‘entrepreneurs’. Mismanagement of uber doesn’t take away from the fact it’s created a new need.

What base need did Uber create that didn't exist before?

Need perhaps the wrong word- new market. The need for people to get around has always existed but the market didn’t exist. Uber is weirdly triggering though eh! Just one example.

I see these companies as cases where there was not much market risk and a high degree of product risk. Summoning cars from your phone, opening up a wider array of vacation accommodations, etc. are all things that have a lot of built in demand...IF the product actually works.
