I think folks misunderstand me when I say: "pick your market first."
"Market" = "A group I'd like to sell to."
"Market" = "A category where people are currently spending $."
Example:
"The global diamond market is currently $82 billion USD."

I think JTBD is helpful in discovering what motivates customers to buy a product. It doesn’t seem as good at quantifying the size of the opportunity.

I think it’s about how much $ people are spending to get a certain job done (Of course you can define “job” with varying levels of granularity but the relevant level for you depends on how wide a scope your product solves for.)
