Question: "It seems like Transistor doesn't have as much mindshare as Libsyn, Blubbry, and other big podcast hosts. What's going to be your big differentiator?" First, Jon and I don't necessarily want to be as big as those companies! Competitively, we just think about our users.

The problem with comparing yourself to the "big players" is you run the risk of trying to apply their practices to your business.https://twitter.com/dhh/status/1177974040432037888 …

Also, running those big businesses seems like a world of pain compared to this nice small business that Jon and I are building.

Here's another question I received: "How much of your growth do you attribute to having built a following beforehand?" It definitely helped in the beginning (for our first ~100 customers), but after that, SEO, content, and affiliates became more important channels.

Beyond attracting initial customers, building an audience is also helpful because it improves: 1. Your connections: who you know, and who knows you. 2. Your skills: the value you can add to the world.

“Who knows you” is such an under-recognized benefit, I’ve had so many great opportunities come my way because someone with some influence somewhere knows me and I don’t even know it. Like free wrestling tickets!

Yup! It’s true! Also: a good reminder to be a nice human. People pick that up!
