For all the benefits of working remote, as the trend continues, I would put a giant ass bet on "loneliness" as the number one reason talented employees quit and return to colocated team.

I have been remote since 2007 and have never felt loneliness either, but I've never lived alone in those periods.

Maybe because creating community is a central piece of your work? Physically and virtually. For a lot of workers, community happens _passively_ in the office and that vanishes when you work remote unless you _actively_ work on it. If you've never felt it, I'm envious :)

Biggest factor is how the company humanizes or dehumanizes remote workers. If the culture allows remote workers to be "less than" those onsite, it's game over. Location doesn't create loneliness; there's plenty of lonely people hiding in plain sight at the office.

I second that Justin. Maybe it depends on your family and social circles apart from work.
