Most devs aren't solopreneurs though.. They typically only want to build products and team up with someone to market. Maybe that's just my observation.
That's my point. It wasn't a great market. 
A few more: - A restaurant focusing on potatoes just closed in my hometown. Too narrow of a niche. Most folks don't want to eat a baked potato more than once a month. - What killed barber shops in the 60s was the switch to long hair. Their market (short haircuts) was too small.
obvious but probably worth noting, this matters more the higher your costs. if you have a very niche market, and very low overhead costs, the longer you can afford to reach a higher % of that niche market.
I'm certainly not the only one to make this observation.

Isn’t that article referencing businesses trying to go HUGE like typical startups though? Also, horrible analogy – you catch balls by losing your fear and watching for where it goes. I think there’s a parallel there…
