I'm reading the Walt Disney biography, and what's most striking is how long it took him to get any traction at all. The Disney brothers start their company in 1923, and basically eat shit for 10 years. Year after year of failed attempts, bad deals, and projects gone bad.

Disney is one of America's most iconic companies. It took them 10 years to achieve even a baseline of success. 10 years! Are we willing to put forward that kind of effort, in a single direction, for that long? Are we willing to take our knocks, and keep going?

Lots of folks asking which Disney biography I'm reading. It's this one: Warning: it's long! Took me until chapter 2 before I really got into it. https://www.amazon.com/Walt-Disney-Triumph-American-Imagination/dp/0679757473/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=walt+disney&qid=1556863531&s=books&sr=1-1 …pic.twitter.com/smUOLniMg0

It's hard to maintain good relationships during these periods. Mainly because you are often misunderstood or because of how you are perceived. The ones who stay with you is about the test of time. But you have to be somewhat lucky for that.

Yes, luck is a big factor. Wouldn't be surprised if Disney success was based on accidentally meeting some studio producer at a bar, who opened the first door for them.

Core of the ‘overnight success’ myth, I think. So few understand what you have gone through to get there. Today it’s a bit different as so many document and share via social media. Maybe that will speed up the timeframe for some too, watching and learning from others?

This reminds me of the ice cube metaphor. Imagine an ice cube as a room heats up in 1-degree increments. 26... 27...28... to 31 and still nothing has happened. Then at 32, the ice begins to melt. It's gradually then suddenly.
