"The lower the price, the less likely someone is to search for another solution to their problem. By keeping a nice value buffer you avoid customers even considering switching away from your product." – @nathanbarry

One of the big risks for a small product is stuffing it with more "value" just so you can increase the price. Often, users get features they don't want *and* they have to pay more for it.

I'm not opposed to charging more. Generally I like
@ianlandsman's approach: "If *no one* is complaining, you should probably raise your price." pic.twitter.com/C6cpddQnCo But don't alienate the thousands who are happily paying you (and might keep paying for another 5 years)!Pokaż ten wątek

I feel like the "charge more" trope is helpful when considering ideas right at the start. I think people are pulled towards $5 a month ideas because they seem like they would be easier to sell

Seems Followup raised their prices since. Not a strategy of theirs anymore.

in that case, the lower price point makes a ton of sense. -
Low compared to what? It’s high compared to $8/mo. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The subtext is they believe they’ve found the *high* end of their target segment’s willingness to pay. - Pokaż odpowiedzi

Kind of feels like you're focusing on the low-ish price point because that's top of mind for you lately, but not on the "That app runs my life" part, which seems 100x more important to me.

I thought that was significant too. It was interesting to me that we don't pay more for the stuff that runs our life. (Even though it's important). We pay very little for Gmail, but it's the most important app we use (likely). Product category has a big influence on price.

this is one advantage of charging a "lower" price point. People happily pay for years, and don't even think about canceling.
