Great post on pricing @mijustin !
I find myself agreeing with almost all of it. And then disagreeing with almost all of it.
Maybe the real goal is to “make more” as opposed to simply “charge more.”
The latter often leads to the former, but not always.https://twitter.com/mijustin/status/1117122391895789568 …

BTW - I'm not sure if my goal is to "make more." (At least now currently) I'm simply trying to "make enough." If Jon and I can get to $50k MRR, and run a nice little company, I'll be happy.

I respect that, but the goalposts have a way of moving on their own as you go. If we talked two years ago, I would have been 100% sure that at our current MRR I’d be at the “enough” stage. Alas, not even close.

Is that because you personally want to take home more now than you wanted to be able to take home two years ago, or just because even with MRR higher expenses have gone up too and you can't pull out as much as you expected to be able to?

I think what Justin is saying is that if he can take home $250k/yr, he doesn't care if the business ever gets bigger than that, which definitely resonates with me.

And at 45 yrs old having put most of my eggs in this business basket and looking at living ~45 more years but only being relevant for.... Not sure how many more, 3 kids, college, "retirement". Shit gets real and $250, actually, not enough

Brecht, I'm curious ('cause I'm almost 39, with 4 kids

100% If you not growing, you're dying. Change is coming for everyone's business. Bezos said "Amazon is not too big to fail Amazon will go bankrupt. If you look at large companies, their lifespans tend to be 30-plus years, not a hundred-plus years"

I think there are other perspectives on growth worth exploring.

Very familiar. Businesses have a lifecycle. I’ve lived it.

dhh has a fucking race car team. $250k doesn't even get you on the track. A lot easier to talk about not growing when you have millions
