I've been thinking about this post for years. Collecting different POV. It took me hours to put together (and I was up until 2am writing it), but I'm glad it's finally out. Want to thank some of the folks who's ideas influenced it:

Next, I remember reading this
@patio11 newsletter in 2012 and being really impacted by it. (I've re-read it a few times since then!) https://training.kalzumeus.com/newsletters/archive/saas_pricing … Especially, this case study with@earthlingworks (which potentially has a parallel with Transistor's current pricing)pic.twitter.com/3ymXFPmH41

This is a pretty nicely balanced and well-articulated point of view. It makes a lot of sense to take context into account, doesn't it? Like most things in tech, the answer is "it depends." And you make a very compelling argument reminding us of that.

Ben, that link is a rabbit hole treasure trove of relevant advice. Love the SLC vs MVP idea also.

The advice to ‘charge more’ spans many industries, but buying isn’t always rational. Some people only buy at the lowest price, others only at the highest, and for many there are complex tipping points based on features + emotional connection.

Pricing is so complex, there are so many different factors that come into it. I always say it depends on which segment of customer. Small biz vs large biz vs agency style customer, each have diff usage and willingness to pay.

First,
@nathanbarry's post on the "consumer surplus" articulated so many thoughts I've been trying to put into words forever. Really helpful: https://nathanbarry.com/value/ pic.twitter.com/Paz2CrpuQK

Watched you talk about this on one of your live streams and really enjoyed it! Context matters... market matters... so many diff factors and the “charge more” advice isn’t *always* the right answer.
