I could definitely see that happening too! My guess is they won't but I would only peg it at ~60-70% probability

Nah, I don't think they'll bat an eyelid. They don't seem to think there's any meaningful revenue there, hence continued stagnation

My guess (hope?) is that Spotify is spending "smart money" on Gimlet. Meaning: inside their platform, Spotify could see the stats for all the Gimlet shows. My guess is they saw a connection between that and "more minutes listened to in Spotify." Apple is in this same business!

Definitely should see a big shift for Apple soon, the numbers just don't look great for them: Apple’s iOS Podcast App/iTunes Desktop market share: May 2017: 55.5% May 2016: 59.7% May 2015: 64.8% May 2014: 68.6% May 2013: 68.7% May 2012: 73.1% May 2008: 73.8% May 2007: 96.5%

In 2006 22% of the adult population in the United States was aware of the phrase "podcast", that number by 2018 was 64%. So it seems like while Apple isn't necessarily losing ground, they're just not gaining as much ground as fast as alternatives are as they're popping up.

Podcasts behind pay wall is my fear, but then, that model is what may drive some people to get in the game and create some great content.
