I wish ad-supported services could look at my average usage (# of pages I’ve viewed, ads I’ve seen, etc), and give me an option to directly pay them the same amount they would have charged the advertisers for my slice of views/clicks/etc. No ads for me, they get paid. Win win.

I dig this idea. It's already working this way with podcasts that give supporters an ad-free podcast feed. Supporters get the content, and the podcaster often gets paid better than they would with ads.

I like the idea but if you give people an option to opt-out it would primarily be affluent people who take that offer. It would lower the ROAS for advertisers since they're fishing in a pool of less wealthy individuals.

I worry if you let some users opt-out then it weakens the advertising model so you're stuck with apps with 100% ads and apps with no ads. I wish more apps had zero ads to start with.

To a certain extent this is already happening. Often, "verified" users of social apps don't see ads.
