In some cases, "CHARGE MORE!" is bad advice. Let me explain.

In my town, there are two barber shops side-by-side. Barbershop A is booked 4 months in advance, and charge $38 for a haircut. They can't take walk-ins, they're too busy! Barbershop B is rarely busy. They'll take walk-ins. They charge $25.pic.twitter.com/PQIXGHtLSJ

Nah, I just can’t get this out of my head. I got my hair cut this week and here’s what happened: I meant to get it cut before Christmas but was too busy Finally decided to go on Tuesday. Walked past the shop 15mins after my decision. Two people waiting. Hell, no.

so I pop into to buy some groceries and walk back past them. Only 1 person waiting. Ok. Not ideal but I’ll wait. 20mins later I’m walking out with all my criteria fulfilled: no planning, not much waiting, no fuss, only cost €13, don’t look like a caveman any more.

I’m honestly shocked that a barber you have to book 4 months in advance is still in business. I could maybe have conceived of such a business in LA or NY but just a regular ol’ town: suicide. Which I think all says more about the market you address than the pricing

They're not just in business, they're doing way better than the other shop (which has been around longer!) Since opening, Barbershop A has: - Doubled the number of barbers - Gone from charging $29 to $38. - Been featured multiple times in the paper - Still "by apt only."
