You missed another piece of DHH’s tweet. He said he worked on it 10 hours/week, but JF and others worked in it 40 hours/week at he same time. That’s not a side project as you describe it.

Jason and others did not work 40h/week on Basecamp in the early days. They worked that amount TOTAL while doing client work AND Basecamp development. So 10-15h/week is probably apt too, but wasn’t tracked as closely as my time.

Sorry if you mentioned this before. But would you say you had some sort of previous experience insights or extra organizational prowess that gave you an advantage in dealing with workload or was it just regular human being strength?

W odpowiedzi do to @MihaiSterian@dhh i jeszcze
As in, yeah, people who want to start a side-project tomorrow can do that if they want to without having a major time commitment. It's in their reach if they just keep commiting work every week on that project.

To me it feels a lot like working out: a few focused hours a day translates into big gains after a year.
So far, @transistorfm's been built on the side this way. The difference is that in business, nothing is guaranteed. Efforts might not translate into a winning company.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 2 polubione -
If you commit to a couple of hours a day it will amount to something, whatever that may be. I got the gist of it. My question is, how does prev. exp/individual brilliance/shrewdness plays into this. I mean, it's the difference between working on something and building something.

Justin Jackson podał/a dalej James Clear
I think my friend @JamesClear would say that your past habits/efforts definitely contribute to who you are today.
But I don't think you need to be "brilliant" to make it work.https://twitter.com/jamesclear/status/1048612840615997441?s=21 …
