Is growing a business the same thing as growing a startup? To my mind, a startup exists to grow and get funded and possibly acquired for an "exit". A business exists to provide value to customers. Startups only seem to do so in an ancillary fashion.

I'm using "startup" in its looser context here

I'm very happy to have discovered your blog - it's almost like having a window looking into my future in 12 months, and is answering many questions I have rattling inside my own head.

Loved this article. I do think potential audience size has a lot to do with the speed you grow at though. If we look at Transistor, your audience is people who create podcasts, whilst WP engine's audience is anybody who has a wordpress website.

There are 550k podcasts according to Apple (WWDC 2018). There are over 37M self-hosted WP websites (figure sourced from Google). Your potential audience is 1.5% of the audience size that WP Engine has. Also, compare the entry level of starting a WP website VS starting a podcast.

Have you thought about introducing services as a way to grow revenue? Concierge onboarding for your platform, podcast editing, etc.
-
Yup! We've experimented with some of that. There's still potential there too.
