Mailchimp is either a beacon for future founders to follow or the last gasp of a dying breed of bootstrappers. In the funding fueled startup world, is this piece just a voyeuristic view into a bygone era of entrepreneurship? https://twitter.com/alexrkonrad/status/1049301021330161665 …

why do you think that is?

I think there is an underappreciated superpower to having the time to figure out the nuances of a market factoring in time/cycles. That approach is counter to picking a singular hypothesis, attacking it at max speed for 18 months, and either hitting your mark or shutting down.

Such a “small” yet important point. And so spot on. Eventually they went “Full VC mode” if I recall but reminds me of Warby Parker start and the founders keeping their jobs for a (relatively) long time. Buys so much optionality.

Used their service back in the early days. They’ve come a long way.

Or build a services business (as
@benchestnut ). The service model is undervalued today. Founders need exp with selling and marketing stuff before building a productDziękujemy. Twitter skorzysta z tych informacji, aby Twoja oś czasu bardziej Ci odpowiadała. CofnijCofnij

I’m starting a new software biz (will launch soon) I’v hired a team and self funding it. But I’m worried that when (if) it takes off, someone will copy the concept, get VC backed, and then crush me w/ a big sales force and more devs. They’ll use me to validate biz model

I think the slow growh model won’t work today... there’s so much VC money... I feel my best plan is to quietly prove my biz model (be profitable) and use that as leverage for a good VC deal The Basecamp, Mailchimp model worked in 2000 - maybe no more...
