33.8% of all podcasts published in the last 6 months are hosted by @anchor. That a pretty big deal in such a notably decentralised space. https://chartable.com/blog/top-podcast-hosting-2018 …

A week or so ago, we launched a pretty lo-fi show covering the Edinburgh Fringe. For the last major show we launched, we (very happily) used
@Simplecast. But I put the Fringe podcast on@anchor. Why? Because it was only ever going to be 5 episodes long.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 0 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
I don't wanna be locked into paying $19/mo for a feed that's never going to get updated again, just so it doesn't disappear. There's an awful lot worth paying for in a service like Simplecast. Knowing my bills directly cover a company's operations is really important to me.

With a company like Anchor, where the cost to the creator is nothing, there's inherent risk; a chance you get walled-gardened, or some kind of proprietary lock-in occurs. (I don't think Anchor intend for this to happen, but when you take VC money it's not always up to you).

I think this survey should make anyone in the hosting game sit up and pay attention. For any small-to-large publisher, I don't think the pay-per-show model makes much sense anymore.

The idea that you're going to forever have to pay an extra $19/mo every time you want to experiment with something new is either going to: a) Put a naturally suppressive cap on the amount of things a publisher tries b) Drive them to a service like Anchor to diminish the risk

@TransistorFM are half on the right track in allowing you to have as many shows as you want. But they have their own penalisation level, based on download numbers, that doesn't represent value for money in my opinion. $49 for 15,000 downloads is an awful lot in this market.1 odpowiedź 0 podanych dalej 2 polubionePokaż ten wątek -
Essentially, I think someone like Simplecast should look at Transistor and Anchor, learn from what is appealing from their respective business models and come up with something that would empower creators publishers to take risks and try new things.

To me, this would be very appealing: • $60/month • Unlimited feeds • Unlimited downloads • 5 active shows

I'm listening, Matt! This is great feedback. We're still tweaking our plans at @TransistorFM. Trying to find the right fit.
