Add to that the question of squinting at something very small and deciding opportunity cost vs starting something else to bootstrap.

Love the comment about bootstrapping not being a pure meritocracy but in reality highly dependant on personal circumstance. Context is so important. Life changes dramatically over 10 years.

Reaching out to customers with a finished product ready to sign up to, isn't engaging. What you're building doesn't have to be 'ready' before people see it. Bring customers along for the journey. Show them things at every stage. People are more invested when they contribute.

So fun to follow Justin’s journey. We’ve been through many of these issues ourselves. Really useful to see how others are navigating it. Thanks for sharing !

Now I'm even more curious how other people "bootstrap" or diversify their accounts. For us it was rental income (office sub-tenants), side projects, and client work.

I loved that newsletter BTW! I think you're onto something changing the actual concept of what "bootstrapping" is (not its meaning) / just that we have to reframe the context around it

My wife was concerned because I was looking at my phone and gasped. This was a great read.

We’ve mythologized self-funded companies. Many of us are trying to follow in their footsteps. But along the way, we’ve created some false beliefs: "The hidden cost of bootstrapping."

Ultimately, you're looking for leverage. Leverage is your ability to make progress; to get the life you want. Leverage comes from 3 things: 1. Your connections: who you know, and who knows you. 2. Your skills: the value you can add to the world. 3. Your assets: money, equity.
