Not sure if you've read "Sapiens", but the idea of a "shared imagination" as an inflection point for humans is a recurring theme.

ive read it! ive also read jung. shared imagination is something i want to believe in. not quite convinced by the evidence, though.

Hmm. It's not meant in a metaphysical/supernatural/transcendental way. It just means humans have the ability to believe in the same imaginary (i.e. not of the physical world) things, such as ideas, governments, laws, religions, etc.
