Not a JP fan either. But there's usually *something* interesting going on when ppl you respect like things you find dumb/wrong. eg, they're using a different evaluative lens. It's a case of violated expectations, indicating there's something wrong with your model of the world
people love him for the free speech stuff, because it’s so needed, then free pass him on everything else

not sure why people want to hate on JBP. if you talk to many of his fans, they will say that his work helped them get out of nihilistic apathy. some people don't need that and so his work falls on deaf ears, but for a lot of people it's life-changing.

Helping ppl get out of nihilistic apathy is good... but it matters HOW you do that. If you do so by playing fast and loose with the truth (as many of his detractors feel he does) that makes things dicier.
