technological development under elon has been incredible - spectacular! - but our martian problem is not technological. our martian problem is a decades-long, bipartisan apathy hidden beneath a cheery, “we can do it!” facade.

people say they want to go to mars. but the actions we’ve taken, and continue to take, indicate no such thing. i’m not a cynic, i’m just nervous, and i wonder: if we can’t even muster the will for a single mission to the red planet, what hope do we have of colonization?

Men are moved by movements, you need a vanguard. Remember nobody in politics now has any kind of positive vision of the future to sell, this is why Silicon Valley has stepped in with its libertarian technocracy (although that is in-part a dead end).
