I think it's more people's brains are too full of actual threats, to decide whether aliens or secret government projects matter in any way to them. Also, if it did matter, they wouldn't say so.

Is there any other information on this beyond the NY times story and the pilot reports? The lack of media F/U is certainly fascinating regardless of veracity of info.
