It just occurred to me that, actually, we're reading more as a society than ever before in history, and by several orders of magnitude?
We have a problem, for example, that involves confidently mispronouncing words we've read for years but never said aloud. No word for this.

We're highly literary, w subtly different languages for varying mediums, even (twitter, fb, email). We just aren't reading Franzen, is all.
