Doesn't the constitution allow for expanding the court. Why does expanding the court = authoritarianism. I don't get it.

When the motive for expanding the court is to ensure you have enough justices to support what you want to do it becomes authoritarian. FDR wanted to do this himself and was thankfully rebuked.
