Truly don’t care about Elon Musk being on a special magazine cover but I just don’t understand “making humans a spacefaring species” / “preserving the light of consciousness” as goals for anyone to care about.

it's not that there aren't good reasons to pursue space expansion, the "light of consciousness" thing just isn't one of them. too much potential for repugnant conclusion-type reasoning, which is what I find bleak
