would also be improvement in the presidential debates if the moderator, after asking every single question, reminded the audience (and the candidates apparently) that the president does not make laws
one interesting aspect of american government a lot of people don’t realize is the supreme court can’t write laws, it can only interpret them. but congress is actually capable of legislation. anyway, just found that kind of neat.

To be fair, Congress has delegated a tremendous amount of rulemaking power to the executive branch. Congress could revoke this authority and write laws whenever it wishes, but it does not wish to.

Hate to be that guy but the supreme court can basically write laws and can overrule legislation. "Common law: the part of English law that is derived from custom and judicial precedent rather than statutes."

Can't remember the last time the courts overturned an amendment. Legislators hold root access (wear the pants) in this relationship. They also confirm justices...

Yes but the interpretive power is such that it can essentially rewrite, eliminate, or supersede laws. The very point that pro-lifers make, for example, is that the Supreme Court "wrote" the law re 20 weeks. Similar point re gay marriage. It's the law because the SC made it so
