the government spent 7 trillion dollars last year. we're 29 trillion in debt. nothing is better. but we demand our CEOs fix the world, as a side project, with a few billion. i've been wondering: is this bc they’re the only example we have of leaders who’ve actually done anything?

Not certain I agree with you here! It is good for everyone to contribute fairly to tax revenues, good for democracy. I can see why you might adjudge the particular proposal at hand to be sub-optimal, but it remains important for individuals to also be citizens, imho.
