After a century of successful people leaving Europe, it is now better for wealthy people to live in France, Germany etc than in the US. Crazy.https://twitter.com/zerohedge/status/1453708444528226318 …

      Doesn’t this make the US’s top rate 37 + 5 = 42, which is still less than France’s 45 (with a 4% surtax for 500K-1M+) or Germany’s 45% top bracket?

yes, and he's clearly talking about the country. across most states, the burden on top earners is higher here than france, germany etc. that's pretty significant given we also get none of the cool "free" shit.

No, America simply needs to start taxing its middle and working class. But obviously that’s impossible in this political climatepic.twitter.com/xvj66gjNkz

To be fair, the people who want to tax you like Europe also want to give you the free shit. I say we all move to WA, TX, or FL and just make the rest of that country nature preserves tho.

We ain't getting any of that. Gov already has enough money to provide those services and doesn't.

The fundamental difference in taxation between the US and Europe isn't the top rates, but how low they kick in. Taxes are far higher for middle and upper middle class in Europe. That's where the money is and how the "free shit" gets paid for.
