all things considered, a virus escaped from a lab conducting gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses could have been — maybe should have been? — far deadlier. a hard lesson, but if we learn from covid it might actually spare us 10 or 100x as many lives in the future.

The lesson we should have learned is 'give everyone a home mRNA synthesis kit so they can download biodefense updates and go' but you know, spending a whole year to approve a vaccine designed in under a week is what we're stuck with

It is completely insane to me that 2 years later we still don't know where this came from and reporters 1) do not care; 2) demonize (as in, continueto) ppl who suggested the highly likely reason this happened.

The death toll was enough but we haven't seen the end of the health, labor, & social consequences (crime/engineered societal breakdown being the worst) yet.
