main thing about crime in SF is it absolutely doesn’t exist, but anyway it has existed forever so what is your problem?, last point crime is good, actually, so it is good that it exists

fwiw this is also not really true. i moved to SF ten years ago. car break-ins were so common nobody bothered to call them in. big change is under covid tourists left, and organized crime switched focus to homes and businesses.https://twitter.com/CHSMusings/status/1450866452743921672?s=20 …

Other big change is city pols using social justice rhetoric to excuse their inability to address problems. I remember Gascon pledging (and failing) to clean up the TL years ago, now all of the energy goes into rationalizing how awful it is.

I think the main difference is people getting more sensitive, for two reasons. One, people who would have been on the peninsula in the past are in the city now. Two, ppl born after ~1990 lived their entire lives in a very low crime environment.
