highways, apollo, and the space program have always been my few points of hope. the military's not bad either when you need to erase a maniac attempting global conquest.

I am not from the States so maybe I am wrong, but I have always seen people complaining about the military paying like 1000% the regular price of everything they buy, is this right?

Splitting poor minority towns apart so you can transport the military around doesn't sound like much of an improvement. The Space program was a military operation to match the Soviet Union.
