Most of the time retired people can just go audit college classes. Usually they were the most engaged attendees of the classes I took that they went to.

The thing about free college is that it's a waste of time. College pays for itself if: a) You pick the right course b) You work hard enough

The free college advocates always forget to say countries with heavily government funded colleges control entrance strictly, through merit based exams, and fail out many during first year. The taxpayer money ultimately benefits wealthier children.

Not nessesarily. If coupled with academically strong public school system, the benefit is spread more evenly. Tutoring helps but it won't replace raw lack of brains.

How come one can be equally as educated as one that goes to college, & if not sometimes even more educated than a school could ever provide to any individual?

Devil's Advocate here – there are lots of practical 2-year programs at Community College that aren't as academic and would probably benefit even people with bad grades.
