not rhetorical, actually can't figure it out. i'm torn between thinking it's because nobody believes america is powerful enough to do anything about china and nobody who says they care about things like covid, human rights, or global warming actually cares about those things.

@micsolana second point as: most people concerned by those are caught up in group narratives based on emotions and don’t analyse coldly & rationally what the heart of the issue is. Would overall agree with that. Twitter is lossy compression of thoughts, etc

If you're wealthy enough to have a major platform, like, hypothetically, being the head coach of an NBA franchise, China has made it clear they will fuck up your access to their market if you say anything negative, and even if you're willing to do it, the shareholders aren't.
