having an edit button isn't an unalloyed good imo. there's value in knowing something has never been edited. that said, it would be pretty trivial to include the entire history of what a tweet has ever said. the issue is RT'ing something, then it gets substantially altered

but again, that can be managed by automatically un-RT'ing when you edit. or, some kind of notification system that lets you know when something you've RT'ed gets changed, and automatically removes your RT, and then prompts you whether you would like to renew the RT post-changes
