Don't get me wrong, Chesa is a completely unrespectable person, but the evidence for supervised sites at cutting into both death and the social corrosion wrought by the people who use is pretty solid. There are really good reasons to want him gone but this isn't one
-
It's not solid. In Vancouver it had no impact European countries force rehab and prosecute drug dealers so do not compare to Portugal.

Roughly 80k annual overdoses, of which 60% are due to product that has been laced with fentanyl. If we wanted to save those ~50k lives we could legalize drugs and allow people to buy them from legitimate vendors.

Honestly I never understood this as a compassionate position. If someone I loved was addicted to heroin, I’d do everything I could to help them kick their addiction rather than giving them a “safe place” to shoot up.
-
Also even if I hated someone I wouldn’t give them a safe place to shoot up either. Seems cruel to just keep someone on heroin.

At a certain point, it is easier to adapt to craziness than to try and fix its roots.

Imagine going to a “safe consumption site” to dose your fentanyl laced drugs and overdosing there
