Because it wasn't stealing control of the armed forces, it was fortifying it

coup would be taking the next step and using control of armed forces to overthrow govt

i'm confused about the definition honestly, have been googling around and can't find anything firm. i guess i'm mostly just wondering... if you aren't really in control of the military, have you not in a sense been overthrown? role of the pres is explicitly commander in chief

It says Milley reiterated to follow the process so fair. But Trump creating a war seems insane when you read that Milley was alarmed by his desire to *withdraw* from AFG, not to mention his well publicized refusal to kill Iranians after the drone shoot down (against Army wishes)
-
legit just seems milley thought trumps tweets seemed crazy, which... who didn't? doesn't seem like enough to justify a coup. or maybe it is? guess we're in uncharted territory here.

Kissinger did the same. Not wholly uncommon for top of commands in enemy countries to have dialogues outside of their presidents, but if true about warning Chinese and/or threatening to disobey an order, it’s not great.

kissinger story seems more relevant to the call with china, which is insane to me but isn't what i find most concerning. woodward makes it seem like milley took control of our nuclear weapons.
