I don’t expect the headline to explain all of the nuance of the world, just not to give readers a misleading impression based on the most straightforward reading of the headline

mike has a whole essay to explain his position and uses a phrase i don't even find in the stories about ivermectin. but you're concerned about a headline that you seem to acknowledge can be read fairly on top of a story that's really very factual and fair.

I only mentioned the description posed in the headline because you posted the story in response…

And if they used the same words as you, “animal version of drug,” that would be much less misleading and actually simpler. Instead they used the descriptor “meant for livestock” which is clumsy at best and leads to a false interpretation of the story via the headline.pic.twitter.com/6D8WnmZwzp

my sense -- not being an expert on this -- is that ivermectin is a drug mostly used with animals and many/most of the versions people are using are meant for livestock. I'm open to the idea that you could re-write the headline slightly better

but given the nuance of the story and the complicated nature of the drug that has to be threaded I certainly don't think it rises to "a lie with intention" as Mike is describing this situation

sure I think there are people on twitter memeing about it being a horse drug and that is amusingly reductionist. But I'd say Mike's take is very similar to this situation described with Glenn Greenwaldhttps://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/08/glenn-greenwald-speaks-truth-to-reply-guys.html …

the fair critique is about the jokes on twitter but it's more appealing to write it about the authorities. even the FDA post seems pretty thoughtful and acknowledges human useshttps://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/why-you-should-not-use-ivermectin-treat-or-prevent-covid-19 …

Human uses have been around for a long time (in the hundreds of millions), in a paper from 2011, for example, on NIH website:pic.twitter.com/K7qct0Y2fD

And I think you’re being a bit naive if you think it’s just people “memeing” about it being a horse drug. From the last 24-hours, for example:https://twitter.com/NPR/status/1433231296172601344 …
